Last week, I finally allowed myself the luxury of a real vacation. It had been a staggering three years since I last took time off from work, and the memory of my last break from social media had faded into obscurity. I craved the chance to reflect, to unwind, and perhaps most surprisingly, to experience a touch of boredom. For once, my laptop lay dormant, untouched by my fingers, and my social media feeds remained unchecked as I deliberately minimized my screen time.
During this much-needed respite, my partner and I delved into discussions about the significant life changes looming on our horizon. The decision to transition to full-time living out west has been a long time in the making, and as we prepare to bid farewell to our beloved New Hampshire, a mix of nostalgia and anticipation fills our hearts. While we’ll undoubtedly miss the familiar landscapes and cherished connections, we’re eager to embrace the adventures that await us in our new home.
The realization dawned on us that juggling the demands of preparing our New Hampshire residence for sale, managing race commitments, and maintaining our full-time jobs would stretch us too thin. Something had to give. After much deliberation, we made the difficult choice to step back from working races following the White Lake event. It became clear that our energy and focus are better directed towards our upcoming life transition and personal pursuits.
With Rem embarking on a more demanding job and my dedication to coaching athletes, it became evident that our presence at races would compromise our ability to be at our best. The decision to prioritize our well-being and professional endeavors marks a significant shift in our priorities. Moreover, the prospect of showcasing my acrylic paintings out west fills me with excitement and anticipation for the creative opportunities that lie ahead.
Stepping away from coaching for a week allowed me to reconnect with my passion for guiding and supporting my athletes. While it was undoubtedly challenging to disconnect from this aspect of my life, the rejuvenation and renewed enthusiasm I gained were immeasurable. It served as a poignant reminder of the importance of periodically stepping back to recharge and reconnect with oneself.
The most surprising revelation of my vacation was the sheer bliss of boredom. In a world inundated with constant stimulation, the simplicity of lying on the ground, gazing at the sky, and immersing myself in the sights and sounds of nature brought a profound sense of peace. Disconnecting from the incessant noise of social media allowed me to find a newfound balance and tranquility.
Moving forward, I’m committed to integrating regular breaks into my routine, recognizing the invaluable opportunity they provide for reflection and renewal. As we prepare to bid farewell to familiar surroundings and embark on a new chapter out west, I’m reminded that while change can be daunting, it also offers the promise of growth and new beginnings.
In the coming months, my focus will shift towards coaching, personal training, and nurturing my artistic endeavors. By relinquishing the demands of race coordination, I look forward to channeling my energy towards the pursuits that bring me the greatest joy and fulfillment. With gratitude and anticipation, I eagerly embrace the adventures that lie ahead.
